Plenty of Humpbacks, Minkes, and Bottlenose!

Another stunning (yet chilly), day out at sea with 7+ Humpbacks, 4 minkes, and over 300 bottlenose!

Our day started with a trio of minke whales. The trio kept their distance as is typical with minke whales but we enjoyed some nice looks. A little further south, another minke whale made itself known.

We found a huge group of bottlenose dolphins in the middle of Santa Cruz Island and on the island drop off. The group consisted of friendly individuals, many calves, and playful adults. They rode the wake of our vessel and gave us some beautiful looks. Further west we found a large group of humpbacks in the gap between Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands. 4 individuals rolled around with one another as bottlenose rode the wake created by their rostrum (or head)! It was an awesome interaction to see these whales being so social. On our way home near the southbound shipping lanes, another group of 3 animals was spotted, ending a perfect day in the Santa Barbara Channel.

Until Next Time,

The SBWW Crew
