It was the most beautiful day of the year in the Santa Barbara channel. With perfectly glassy seas and beautiful clouds illuminating the horizon. The whales and dolphins were spectacular, and refused to stay in the water! 💧
The first whale we found was a shy juvenile. After a couple of tough sequences with it, we decided to head for greener pastures. Soon a pair caught our attention that had double breached in the distance. This BREACHFEST would continue for the next hour!! Both whales would breach right next to the boat, before alternating with some pec slapping. Often times all 4 pectoral fins waving in the air. With the sensational Santa Cruz Island in the background of our scene, it was some of the most beautiful looks ar whales we’ve gotten all year. We soon sent it to painted cave and had a gorgeous visit inside the world’s third longest sea cave.
Upon leaving the cave we encountered a large group of spread out bottlenose dolphin. They were just as acrobatic as the whales and kept from the sea, sometimes over 20 feet high! It was yet another amazing fall day in the Santa Barbara channel, surrounded by the locals.
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
