An astronomical amount of anchovies today were found in our coastal waters, it was truly mind-blowing! The millions of fish near shore brought in 3+ hungry humpbacks and more than 5,000 common dolphins.
The first whale was found just a bit inshore of the kelp farm. It displayed a beautifully white tail and fluked a couple of times. A bit further west off the coast of UCSB, the feeding bonanza began! A pair of humpbacks repeatedly lunged on anchovies as the common dolphins furiously corraled the giant school. We saw side lunging, vertical lunging, as well as some socialization between the whales. At one point the whales split but one continued feeding on its own. We could look down into the water and see schools of fish so thick there was no end in sight. It's what the Santa Barbara Channel is all about, we're hoping for an incredible fall season!
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
