Today, we said goodbye to 2024 and reflected on a spectacular day in the Santa Barbara Channel. From endless humpbacks to hungry killer whales, to one of the best blue whale years in recent memory, we couldn't be more thankful for the amazing wildlife and the incredible guests we shared the ocean with this year.
Today's adventure led us to the west end of Santa Cruz Island where we encountered a single humpback whale. It was cloudy and bumpy across the channel but became sunny out by the islands. We enjoyed its company as it took 8-minute-long dives only to pop up in the same location. It was evident this whale was feeding in the area. It put up its massive tail flukes to reveal a mostly black tail with white spreckling. In the top left corner of its left fluke, killer whale rake marks are evident.
It was the last trip of 2024 and we are so excited to see what 2025 has in store!
Until Next Time,
The SBWW Crew
