The Vessel
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
THE VELELLA
The 28' Axopar was built for speed, endurance, and comfort. It can handle anything the Santa Barbara Channel has to throw its way. Our custom vessel is set up to be the quintessential vessel for small passenger whale watching and wildlife photography. It offers a full restroom, personal seating for 6, and a head-turning design. Its low-to-the-water disposition makes it ideal for photographers seeking to get eye-level with their oceanic subjects. The Velella is also equipped with a special "Brabus," trim, a cellular reception amplifier, and a brand-new 300 HP mercury engine.

NAMESAKE
Named after the iconic Velella Velellas, a small jelly-like creature that can often be seen in the thousands in the channel. Known also as "By-the-wind sailors," these free-floating cnidarians travel as the wind takes them. Their small sail catches the wind and propels them over the surface of the sea. Under certain wind conditions, they may be stranded by the thousand on Santa Barbara beaches.
The sleek design of these incredible critters matches the lines of our vessel, thus the name was born!
